David-1994
It was 1993 and I decided to study abroad for my senior year. Destination: Homer, NY, I tried to read something about this town and there was no information (by that time internet was nothing yet). I arrived to Homer in August with a very poor English and left in 1994 with a fluent English, an American family and very good friends. I had a wonderful year, probably the best experience ever. I meet Adam in the school soccer team and soon we were friends. Then I met Kristin and the wonderful Moreland family. My host family "the Albro's" were great, they had two younger kids, so I was the big brother for them.
With the experience of living abroad I think you learn so many things, not just a language. You learn new cultures and that I think it's one of the most important things in life. You also learn how to live with other families and share experiences with them. At the end they become a part of your family, you'll never forget them.
After my year in Homer I' have had the opportunity to visit them a couple of times, and when my kids grow up I hope we have the chance to visit them again, and who knows maybe one of my kids will spend the senior year at Homer High School, that would be great!
Best regards,
David
